"They will return when ready"

I recently received the following correspondence from a reader in Minnesota. We have written back and forth a few times since...I have added more of his information to the original email:

Hi Lon, I have been reading your blog for a few months especially after I came across the experiences of David Eckhart and his family. To some people these incidents may be mere imagination - but my experiences are just as strange and frightening.

To begin, I am in my mid 60's and these experiences took place over a period of 15 years starting when I began my law practice in 1972. I had lived in Ontario, Canada all my life but eventually moved to the United States and became a citizen. My life too this point had been fairly uneventful and I was raised by wonderful parents. I was naive to the supernatural and considered it a farce. I was very conservative in my ideals including my commitment to my church and other civic organizations.

One afternoon while working in my office my secretary paged me to say that a gentleman was waiting and wanted to talk to me. He didn't have an appointment but said that he needed to see me immediately. I agreed and told her to let him in. The man was very well dressed in a suit and walked directly to the chair in front of my desk and sat down. He looked at me in a strange manner almost like he wasn't sure if he should be there. I stood when he entered the office but he did not reciprocate when I reached to shake his hand. I sat back down and asked how I could help him. He looked away then slowly back towards me, leaned forward and said "I was told to tell you something."

"OK - by whom?" I asked. He started a story that was simply unbelievable - but I knew he was telling me the truth. Why? I have no idea - but I just knew that his words were meant for me and that I'd better follow through with the instructions. After a few minutes, the man (I never got a name from him) told me he had to leave, turned around and walked out of the office. I sat there dumfounded and worried - was he really telling me the truth?

When I got home I tried to relax before I made my next decision. I was frightened by this time and dreaded making that telephone call. I sat in my recliner and picked up the telephone and dialed. The telephone on the other end rang for two minutes without an answer - there was no answering machine - it just continued to ring. They weren't home and it was too late for them to be out. I called their neighbor to check on them. The car was in the driveway and there was no answer at the door. The neighbor contacted the police who arrived and entered the house. There was uneaten food on the table and the television in the dining room was on. They were gone - my parents were abducted!

The mystery man in my office had told me that he was approached earlier that day by a young woman who had an odd manner of speech and looked out of place because she wore a strange brown hooded poncho. He had been eating in a local diner when this woman simply walked over to his booth and sat down across from him. She looked into his eyes and he started to feel as if he was drugged. She told him where to find me and to give me these instructions. I was to stay home tonight and to call my parents. They will not answer - they are with us. We need to talk to you - it is important that you do as you have been instructed.

I was utterly scared to the roots. What was going to happen to my parents and what was going to happen tonight? I prepared for the evening in the best way I knew - just sit and watch television until something happened. It didn't take long.

About an hour after I had started to watch television the power went out - including the neighborhood and, from what I could gather, much of the city. I looked out the window - it was very dark. I walked over to my recliner and started to sit down when I heard a clicking sound coming from the hallway. I looked in the direction of the hallway and noticed something moving towards me. It had a metallic look to it but also seemed to be cloaked and almost invisible. As I stared at this form it began to speak to me in English but very deliberate. "Please be calm and listen. You are safe - your parents are safe. It had to be done - there is no explanation that you could understand." I asked when will my parents return. The answer was "They will return when ready" - then the form backed up and disappeared. Ready for what?

That was in March 1972. I received 6 more visits by similar but different beings and with the same message - the last visit was in 1987 just before Christmas.

My parents have never returned. There was an attempt by the authorities to search for them but there was no evidence available and the case quickly went cold. I did eventually get married and helped raise a son. My wife and I are very happy. She knows about my ordeal and, like I, wonders if they will return one day.

Over the years, I have been in contact with others who have had the same or very similar experiences. Many of these people have not told their stories. I felt it was time to tell mine. I forward this summary at your discretion. I enjoy your daily newsletters immensely. Best to you - M.M.

Roadkill Creature Still Mystery After DNR Examination

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources officials have been unable to identify a mystery carcass found in Douglas County with certainty, prompting further investigation.

The dead white mammal was spotted this week on a Douglas County road with five claws, dark tufts of hair on its back and head and long toenails.

Roadkill is nothing new for Minnesotans, but this curious creature got people talking.

Lacey Ilse said she was driving near her home on County Road 86, south of Alexandria, when she spotted the mysterious mammal.

"We saw something in the middle of the road, and we knew it wasn't a dog or a cat, because it didn't have hair. It had a clump of hair and all the rest was just white skin," Ilse said."it's ear was all mis-shaped. To me, it looked like half-human."

Ilse said she soon posted pictures of the animal on Facebook, and rumors and speculation took off.

"It just shot out like wildfire. everybody was putting it on their Facebook pages. And then, their friends were putting it on their pages," she said.

Noelle Jones sent the pictures to KSAX Monday, and after posting them on the KSAX Facebook page that night, more than 175 comments have been posted about the unusual animal, with guesses ranging from a skunk, badger, wolverine, wolf, or even proof of the mythical chupacabra.

Folks in Alexandria Wednesday had their own ideas.

"First guess was a badger with like, a case of mange. But then, some other people were saying, like a chupacabra. and after looking at some pictures, I was like, 'you know, it's possible," Jones said.

"It kinda looks like a 10-year-old wolf," Austin Becker of Alexandria said.

"Almost looks like a pig, with paws? I don't know, or a wolf," Kaitlin Van Horn of Morris said.

Glenwood DNR Area Wildlife Supervisor Kevin Kotts used the process of elimination to give his answer.

"It's got five long front claws on each of its front feet, which would be characteristic of a badger," Kotts said. "I ran the pictures past a few other DNR folks that have a lot of trapping and/or fur-bare experience, and they all said, it's hard to be 100 percent sure what it is ... but if it's a Minnesota animal, it's probably a badger."

But Ilse, and just about everyone else who has seen it, can't be so sure.

"If you're looking at the top half, it definitely looks like a dog that's kind of been torn apart. But, I'm not sure what to make of the back part," Igor Simanovich of the Twin Cities said.

"It's a strange animal and i hope we don't have anymore around here," Jane Murphy of Alexandria said.

"You know how they do their government secret testing on animals? and I know it sounds crazy, but I've never seen an animal like this," Ilse said

Jason Abraham, with the Department of Natural Resources, said he thinks it may be a domestic dog, but he is still left with questions.

"The head suggests a canine, very likely a domestic dog," Abraham said. "However, the right front foot appears to have five toes, which is not typical for canines. Also, the long toenails are not typical for an active canine."

Ilse said some of her guinea hens and cats are missing and suspects the animal or others in the area may be to blame. Several burrowed holes ranging from four to ten inches in size were also spotted near where the animal was found.

Ilse said Kotts was able to check the creature out Wednesday afternoon and said it's similar to a badger but has a much longer tail than usual, and took the carcass in for further testing. - ksax

The 1964 Barnesville, Minnesota UFO Landing

Early on the morning of May 5, 1964, farmer Alfred Ernst, of Barnesville, Minnesota, drove his truck up to his grain drill. He got out and began loading the drill for the continued wheat seeding of his land, which had begun the day before. He stopped for a moment and surveyed the flat prairie that was his farm, about six miles east of Comstock. Then, at 8 a.m., he saw a UFO on the ground.

"It was a glowing oval object approximately 1,500 feet away," the former Barnesville Mayor told Norman Mess, NICAP Minnesota Subcommittee member. "It appeared to be about three to four feet long and almost as wide."

The witness, in a later telephone conversation with Dr. James E. McDonald, said the object was "like the tub of a washing machine, round-bottomed." There was a bright glow to it and it was "hard to look at."

Ernst saw the object as it was taking off. It rose quickly and disappeared into the clouds in five seconds. The witness said he felt "rather uncomfortable" when the UFO disappeared.

The farmer then drove to the farm of his brother, Leo A. Ernst, and the two men returned to the landing site. There they discovered a crater-like depression about three feet in diameter. At the center of this depression was a hole about three or four inches in diameter. Four other holes approximately one and one-half inches in diameter and two feet apart formed a square around the central hole. The depressed area was unusually dry.

Around the rim of the depression a white substance, later analyzed as alkaline, was found. Ernst said the black soil in that area did not contain alkaline.

WDAY-TV, of Fargo, North Dakota, took an unusual interest in the report and sent a man to investigate and obtain photographs of the area. The results of this investigation were made public on Dewey Berquist's weather program.

"The holes are exactly the type I've seen many times and I'm sure they were caused by lightning," Berquist wrote NICAP. "I believe Mr. Ernst saw an uncommon phenomena called 'ball' or 'globe' lightning."

Bull Lightning Theory Disputed

The witness himself does not agree. Nor does Dr. McDonald.

"While I was quizzing [Ernst] about the state of the weather," Dr. McDonald said in a report to NICAP, "he made reference to the ball lightning explanation and said that was quite unreasonable. He pointed out that he and his father and grandfather had farmed in that area (his grandfather homesteaded there) and nobody in the area had ever seen any fireball or ball lightning or anything like that before... . Having heard directly from Ernst his description of the very precise pattern of the holes, which obviously impressed him greatly, and adding that to his description of the weather, I would say that any type of ball lightning hypothesis will not fit the report. I would say that this is a fairly strong case."

The Arizona atmospheric physicist said thunderstorm activity is needed to produce ball lightning, but "there is no mention of any thunderstorm occurring at the time, nor does any of the material indicate lightning activity."

"The descriptions of the geometric pattern of holes in the blown-out area are quite atypical of ball lightning.. . .," Dr. McDonald continued. "Ernst mentioned that it was hard to look at the object due to its luminosity. I have never heard of ball lightning so luminous that it would be hard to look at at a distance of a quarter of a mile. . . .

"It is true that lightning sometimes makes a hole or tear in the ground and it is also true that when it hits sand it vitrefies the sand, but I would not be satisfied with Berquist's easy explanation of the holes on such a basis, in view of the reported geometric pattern... .

"Ball lightning fairly frequently ends by exploding (occasionally with damaging force, usually just with a loud noise). One might hypothesize that the hole which Ernst reported was due to explosive termination of a lightning ball; however, then one would be left high and dry with respect to accounting for the ascent of the luminous mass. If, alternatively, one argued that the hole was made by an ordinary cloud-to-ground stroke which then generated a lightning ball, it would be unreasonable to think that Ernst could have failed to hear a very loud crash of thunder. No mention of any such thunder is made." - NICAP - 'Strange Effects from UFOs' - Donald Keyhoe and Gordon Lore
