Mysterious Animal Slaughter - Parras, Coahuila, Mexico

Scott Corrales of Inexplicata reports on a mysterious animal slaughter in northern Mexico:

Mexico: Chupacabras? A Report from Parras, Coahuila
By Ana Luisa Cid

According to the Diario Vanguardia newspaper, a mysterious animal slaughter took place at Rancho Buena Fe, east of Parras, Coahuila.

The property's owner said that her animals turned up either dead or dying, all of them displaying puncture marks on their necks. A total of eight sheep, seven mature goats and a young goat were found dead.

According to her statement, she heard no sounds whatsoever. Her guard dogs never barked, and the intruder's prints were never found. She added that the same thing happened the previous month and that motivated a change of pens. She placed the animals closer to her home, but even that did not prevent the loss of her animals.

It should be noted that in Sabinas, another locality in the state of Coahuila, the presence of wildlife has been reported in collective farming properties and in the outskirts of the city. Black bears and pumas have been mentioned. However, bears and pumas do not kill their prey by puncturing their necks. Therefore, in my opinion, what happened in Rancho Buena Fe, Parras, has still not been satisfactorily explained. - www.analuisacid.com and Diario Vanguardia

Scott reported on other incidents in this area in April 2010:

NOTE: the following is a recent post by Scott Corrales at Inexplicata:

Mexico: Four-Armed “Grey Monster” in Monclova

Several witnesses claim seeing the creature – Elements of the public safety forces responded to reports – Creature’s presence is associated with animal deaths.

[Prof. Ana Luisa Cid notes: “I learned of this incident through Ing. Ricardo García of Monclova. It should be noted that the reports are from three separate dates: April 4, 5 and 9. On the 4th, it was seen by some children in the Chinameca district; on the 5th, it was seen at the Alamo district, where witnesses point out that it submerged into the Monclova River; on the 9th it was reported that a shepherd saw it several times at a ranch and that it has killed 10 goats in six months. All information is from the Zocalo newspaper.”]

Monster Causes Alarm in Chinameca
By Sergio A. Rodriguez
Diario Zocalo, April 5, 2010

MONCLOVA, Coahuila – Residents of Colonia Chinameca were gripped by a psychosis on Saturday night after two children reported seeing an alleged monster of humanoid characteristics and four legs on Calle Londres in that busy sector.

The children described the entity as a little man with smooth, grey skin and four legs or lower extremities. It was seen in an empty lot of the street in question in the Chinameca district.

Omar Andres Armendariz and Jose Rolando Gallegos, both 13 and local residents, were terrified and spread the word of the “being” they had just seen among other locals.

The mother of one of the youngsters, seeing the state of nerves that her child was in, called the police, requesting that whoever caused her son to fall into such a state of terror be apprehended.

After receiving the report, law enforcement agents reported to the scene and searched everywhere for the strange little man, but could not establish it whereabouts. However, this is not the first time that strange things have been reported in this district, according to residents.

“Monster” Drives Bathers Out of the Moncloa River
By Alejandro Hernández

Diario Zocalo, April 6, 2010

MONCLOVA, Coahuila – Residents of Colonia Alamo had quite a fright yesterday upon seeing a large, grey-colored, four-legged creature submerge into the waters of the Monclova River at the location known as “El Charco Azul” (the blue pond)

Public Safety Personnel reported immediately to the scene to deal with the case, which represents the second sighting of an unknown being with matching characteristics.

Officers of the Policia Preventiva ordered bathers out of the water at the location where the “grey monster” was seen entering the river.

According to reports provided by the police department, residents contacted the desk officer to report the strange animal sighting at 2:00 p.m.

It should be noted that on Saturday night, two minors were terrified by the sight of a strange being in Colonia Chinameca. They described it as having the same characteristics.

In yesterday’s report, residents of Colonia Alamo stated that what appeared to be a “strange animal” broke into a run and entered “El Charco Azul”, submerging itself without coming out again.

Several elements of the Municipal Police reached the site quickly and conversed with some locals, who concealed their personal information.

Four young men from Colonia del Río – Jesús, Rolando, Emmanuel and Edgar – were terror-stricken by the “little man” while fishing for king prawns at the location.

Psychosis Strikes Monclova – “Monster” Now Seen at Ejido

By Zocalo, April 9, 2010

MONCLOVA, Coahuila – The monster seen at Chinameca and the Monclova River appears to dwell in the city’s southwestern section, over by Ejido Curva de Juan Sánchez, where it has slain 10 goats over the past six months and has been seen on at least five occasions, even in broad daylight.

Jaime Cruz, a 21-year-old shepherd from Irapuato, Guanajuato, says that he has seen the strange beast several times between Ejido Curva de Juan Sánchez and the Colinas de Santiago district. The beast is no ordinary animal and is also capable of extremely high leaps.

Giant Rats Invade Townships, Eat Two Children in Separate Attacks

Giant rats as big as cats have killed and eaten two babies in separate attacks in South Africa's squalid townships this week.

Lunathi Dwadwa, three, was killed as she slept in her parent's shack in the Khayelitsha slum outside Cape Town and another girl was killed in Soweto township near Johannesburg the same day.

Little Lunathi was sleeping on a makeshift bed on the floor of her family's breeze block and corrugated iron home on Sunday night when she died. Her puzzled parents didn't even hear her scream.

When her mother discovered her lifeless body, she saw that her daughter's eyes had been gouged out.

Bukiswa Dwadwa, 27, said: 'I can't forget how ugly my child looked after her eyes were ripped out.

'She was eaten from her eyebrows to her cheeks, her other eye was hanging by a piece of flesh.'

Her father Mncedisi Mokoena said police told him: 'Nothing could have done that but rats'

And today police revealed that a baby girl died in the Soweto township when she was attacked by rats while her teenage mother was out with friends.

'We were called to the scene of the death of an infant due to a rat attack on Monday morning at around 9am,' said police officer Bongani Mhlongo.

'The mother of the child was arrested on charges of culpable homicide and negligence.'

The deaths appear to be part of a spate of deadly rat attacks in the country.

Last month, 77-year-old grandmother Nomathemba Joyi died after giant rats chewed off the right side of her face.

Residents of South Africa's impoverished townships say the giant rats grow up to three-foot long, including their tails, and have front teeth over an inch long.

The suspects in the baby attacks are believed to be African Giant Pouched Rats, a species only distantly related to UK rats, but native to sub-Saharan Africa - and the biggest in the world.

They are nocturnal, omnivorous and can produce up to 50 young a year. Some tribal people breed them for food.

They thrive in the townships' filthy conditions and feast on residents' uncollected rubbish. - dailymail

Baby dies after 'rat attack' in South African shack

A baby girl died after being attacked by rats in a South African shack while her teenage mother was out with friends, local media reported on Thursday.

The dead infant was found covered in rat bites after neighbours heard her crying in pain during the night while her mother was away from the Soweto shack she shares with school friends, said The New Age newspaper.

"We were called to the scene of the death of an infant due to a rat attack on Monday morning at around 9:00 am," said police officer Bongani Mhlongo.

"The mother of the child was arrested on charges of culpable homicide and negligence."

The baby was not dressed warmly and the cold Johannesburg winter could have contributed to her death, said Mhlongo.

"The young girl's child was covered in blood," a neighbour told the newspaper.

"I could see that the child was dead already, but this girl kept bathing her, we told her to stop but she did not want to accept that her child was dead."

The mother, a high school pupil, was released on bail. - africasia

Fayette County, PA Man Claims Attack By Unknown Animal

WTAE - A Fayette County man needed nearly 300 stitches to close a gash in his arm after he was attacked by an unknown animal Tuesday night.

Wanda Knopsnider told WTAE Channel 4 Action News' Sheldon Ingram that noises were heard behind her camper in North Union Township, so her daughter's boyfriend, Adam Cravener, went to investigate.

Cravener, 25, said he grabbed a baseball bat and went outside. When he found the animal, he said it bit him.

"It came out from right behind the camper," Cravener told Ingram. "It just happened so quick," he said.

Cravener said it was too dark for him to get a good look at the animal. It was initially thought to be a bear attack but Cravener told Ingram he thought it would be difficult for a bear to fit in the space behind the camper.

"He didn't say what it was. He just said, 'It got me! It got me!'" Knopsnider said.

Cravener need 294 stitches to close a 6-inch gash in his left forearm, Ingram reported.

He spent the night at an area hospital but has since been released.

Scott Tomlinson, the Game Commission's southwestern region supervisor, said their investigation shows nothing to substantiate that there was a bear in the area. They searched the area and talked to witnesses, none of whom saw a bear.

Game commissioner doubts Fayette man was attacked by bear

post-gazette - A Pennsylvania Game Commission supervisor says there's "no credence" to a report that a Fayette County man was bitten or otherwise attacked by a bear.

Adam Knopsnider's family said he was bitten by the animal when he went outside to investigate a suspicious noise about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.

But Scott Tomlinson, the game commission's southwestern region enforcement supervisor, says there were no bear tracks or other evidence the attack occurred as reported in North Union. There was evidence the man may have been bitten by a dog during a domestic dispute.

Mr. Tomlinson said, "There's no credence to the fact that there was a bear" even in the area about 35 miles south of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Knopsnider's family says he was cleaning out a camper when they heard a noise. Mr. Knopsnider grabbed a baseball bat and went outside to investigate, and that's when his family says he was attacked.

The victim's mother, Wanda Knopsnider, said her 25-year-old son was screaming, "It got me, it got me!" and was bleeding badly before he was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., for treatment.

The hospital says they have no record of a patient by that name being admitted, though it's possible he was treated and released from the emergency room.

NOTE: I had not heard about this incident (which occurred 3 weeks ago) until I noticed Sharon Lee had posted at The Bigfoot Field Reporter. This one is a bit strange...300 stitches is a mighty big swipe of a paw. The only animal that could have remotely done that (IMO) was a big cat. As far as a black bear, if there were cubs around or a food source, it may be possible...but I'm really doubting this story from the get-go. Lon
