Updates: Davie County, NC Cryptid / Arkansas Juvenile Bigfoot

This is a follow up to the Possible Bigfoot Detected - Yadkin River, Davie County, NC post from Thursday, July 28th. I received two emails, one on Friday and the other this morning, that referenced 'something' stalking the same general area. Both witnesses requested to remain anonymous at this time:

Concerning the 'Bigfoot on the Yadkin River in Davie County'. I live several miles up river from where this event took place. I am approximately 4 miles from the Yadkin River but at night on occasion I have heard the tree knocking, the howls but I have never seen one or saw a track. I have a tendency to stay out of the woods at night in the summertime due to copperheads and Poison Ivy.

When I first started hearing the howls it happened on a regular basis from about 10:00P.M. to 1:00A.M. or 2:00 A.M. At first I thought it could have been some type of owl but that didn't match up. One day I was looking at an investigation that had been done in upstate New York when they started to play the howling sounds that had been recorded from a possible Bigfoot encounter and it was exactly like I heard. My dogs also have been at times seriously pissed at something in the woods across the road from my house and keeping them from going after it is almost impossible.

I received another email today:

I read your piece about an unknown animal or possible Bigfoot in Davie County. I live between Advance, NC and the Yadkin River and I can say that I have experienced related noises that include wood knocking and weird howls. I also caught a glimpse of a large man-like beast in the Eureka Mills area last Fall while canoeing. This thing rose up from the brush in a clearing. I was about 50 ft. from the bank and it was another 50 ft off the shore. It dashed off so quick I barely saw it, but I know it wasn't a deer, bear or human.

I have heard stories of sightings but people around here kind of keep these things quiet. One of my friend's neighbors down the road from me had a heavy metal sliding door ripped off his barn a few months ago. He said that one of his goats was carried off also. He called the local police who came out and saw large footprints in the mud. That incident never made any news. There is something moving up and down the river as far as I'm concerned.

I have received several inquiries from investigators since I posted the original email. The only information I can forward is what I have posted so far. I am not going to release any names or specifics without consent by the witnesses...Lon

Hello Lon, my name is Louisa Clingan and my cam captured that pic back in Oct of 09. Thank you for posting it on your website. I am including in this e-mail attachments of the enhanced photo using only hue and contrast to bring out more definition. In the inverted pics you can see more structure, ear, hands, fingers and toes. The cam was set in that location to try and catch what was killing the barn cats, chickens and stealing the eggs.

Don't know if you know the background, but the pic was not taken seriously because our bird was in the following pics. You can see that it's not a bird lol. Also I really think that people think that these animals are born 9 feet tall, lol. This is a small juvenile, from what we figured using the reeds, fence line and bottom of the power box for height comparisons, we believe it is no taller than 18" from the top of the head to the ground in the sitting position, hypothetically it would be roughly 36" or 3' in the upright position. The visual that myself and son had on this same property back in 06 was no more that 3 1/2' to 4'.

Well, my friend and associate Sunny Williams thought there was more to this photograph and forwarded the following:

Lon,
I am kind of freaking out over this baby Bigfoot photo. I told you I would do a rendering of what it looks like. Well, the more I sat and stared at the original, the more I realized there was something more to this. I just had a feeling I wasn't seeing it... and then it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Working only with shadows and highlights, I found this 'baby face'. Though I have actually seen an adult Bigfoot, this has me blown away.

As I started working on the face, I realized that in the original "enhancements" by someone else, even mine, was completely wrong. It doesn't look like a gorilla baby, nor a chimp baby. It's human! It looks like a human child!

Later....

This is a living being. Now whether it is or isn't a Bigfoot child, I'll leave that up to you.

All I can say is that it wasn't supposed to be there.

I am also working on a colorized version, to enhance and coax out any more details.

Please, please tell me what you think about this. That picture has been prodding me, ever since I laid eyes on it.

Is this an actual juvenile Bigfoot?

Possible Bigfoot Detected - Yadkin River, Davie County, NC

I received the following inquiry on Wednesday. The witness is asking for an explanation:

I live in west-central North Carolina. I live at a location that is very close to the Yadkin River in Davie County. The river’s flood plain comes to my property line in a valley with no houses and heavily wooded – however two roads to cross to get to my house. The river’s edge is primarily undeveloped, with almost a 300 yard flood area clearance on both sides for miles and miles. This river floods regularly, but not very muck lately. There are high voltage power lines running across the area as well. Now that the stage is set, let’s go. We have also put a game camera out to see if we could catch anything on is. We so far have caught a fat pregnant deer, several raccoons and a grey fox. That pregnant deer has twins now have been in our garden. The deer are pretty thick around here.

This is not a hot bed of Bigfoot sightings. But I have been hearing something very large walking in the woods beside my house. My dog has been kicked by something and knocked out for a few seconds. All we heard that night was a thud as it sounded like he was kicked in the side. We saw nothing as it was around 11:30 pm on a moonless night. A few moments later, he was up chasing a scent down the neighbor’s field. My son grabbed his flashlight and looked around down at the wood line and caught a pair of large red-orange eyes reflection. We went down later to investigate where they were. There is an opening right where he saw the eyes. We determined that whatever it was had to stand about 4 feet tall or so if it was standing in the field and 9 feet tall if it was standing in the woods as the opening has a steep drop off to the tree he used as a reference spot. The last explanation is that whatever it is was in the tree at that level. We are hunters and spend time in the woods often. We have never seen a pair of red-orange eyes around here. Not sure what a bear’s eyes look like, but we have no bear population around here.

I often stay up very late and go outside to look around with the flashlight around 3 or 4 in the morning. I have heard on three occasions a very loud knock following my spotlighting around. It sounds like two large rocks being hit together, not like a rock hitting a tree. They have come from three different spots down in the back yard in the woods. The knock sounds are only heard about once every 8-12 days. Kind of like what ever it is only passes through this area on some kind of schedule. Not sure if that sounds logical? I have only on one occasion heard what I would call a howl. It was in the distance and was NOT a coyote. Not even close. It was a different tone and lasted too long.

I would love to hear a logical explanation for all of this.

'Finding Bigfoot': Muddy Footprints and Candy Bars

“From deep inside the North Carolina Uhwarrie National Forest comes one of the most convincing pieces of Bigfoot footage from the past 40 years. The team of BFRO investigators use decades worth of experiences to determine if this footage is the real deal.” Well, that's how the episode Finding Bigfoot: “Caught on Tape” was promoted by Animal Planet. The following is a local article about the muddy footprints...followed by links of previous posts and comments, including the thermal video/images and using candy bars as Bigfoot bait.

At first, Bernadette and Leonard Braley didn’t pay much attention to the spots of mud on the road about 50 feet from their home on Quartz Court in Gibsonville last October.

But then the Braleys began looking at the mud more closely and thought they looked a lot like footprints. Leonard grabbed the measuring tape and Bernadette a camera. They took photos of what they thought were 16-inch muddy footprints and then forgot about them for a few months.

This past January, Bernadette began thinking about the photos again while she was going through shows on her digital video recorder. One was news footage of man who encountered Bigfoot trying to attack his dog.

It got Bernadette thinking. She did a quick Internet search and found Bigfoot Lunch Club, a group that follows Bigfoot sightings, and there is one in North Carolina. Bernadette emailed her muddy footprint photos to the club. In February, the Braleys were invited to Troy to talk with a group from the Animal Planet television network that was doing some filming for a six-part series called “Finding Bigfoot” that started airing this month.

The Braleys will be featured in an hour-long “Finding Bigfoot” episode about Sasquatch sightings in North Carolina. It airs at 10 p.m. Sunday on Animal Planet, which can be found at Channel 63 on Time-Warner Cable in Alamance County.

“When Animal Planet got there, they went crazy when they saw the pictures,” Bernadette Braley said. “They wanted to come to our house and do filming for their series.”

A four-person team from the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization — BFRO — as well as a producer, cameraman and several others spent a day with the Braleys in March, asking questions, filming and trying to recreate the footprints.

“Their first question was do you live near power lines,” Bernadette Braley said.

Power lines run on the opposite side of their house. The second question was about the deer population. The Braleys’ property backs up to woods and there are a lot of deer. At the time the footprints were found, there was a lot of new construction going on in the cul-de-sac and plenty of mud in the area.

“They have concluded that Bigfoot sightings are around power lines because they like to run along the power lines and also deer. They like to eat deer or run with deer,” Bernadette Braley said.

The footprints were about 12 feet apart.

“They did some tests,” she said. “They put mud on the bottom of their shoes. They had a fellow running in the area. He jumped.”

The test subject was 6 feet tall and he left footprints that were about 6 feet apart.

“They estimated it was probably a lot taller and a lot heavier and running on the ball of its foot,” Bernadette Braley said.

The four-person team of researchers includes Bobo, a commercial fisherman, Cliff, a professional educator, Matt, the president of BFRO and Ranae, a skeptical scientist. They all have varying experiences with Bigfoot and different beliefs about the existence of the creature, according to an Animal Planet release.

“What binds them together, however, is their longing to understand the creature, passion for proving its existence and willingness to stop at nothing to finally track down Bigfoot,” the release states.

The Braleys enjoyed the experience with the Animal Planet group. Bernadette made the whole crowd chili. The researchers left behind a motion-sensitive night-vision camera that they set up in the woods.

The Braleys have a lot of photos of deer and rabbits and leaves falling, but they still haven’t captured Bigfoot on film.

Leonard Braley was always a believer that Sasquatch existed. Bernadette said she was always skeptical. After doing a lot of Internet research, talking to people and interacting with the folks from Animal Planet, she’s starting to be a believer herself.

“I’m leaning in the direction that there’s got to be a Bigfoot out there,” she said. “There is just too many sightings for it to be people’s imagination or hoaxes.”

The Braleys haven’t actually seen Bigfoot and never reported anything to authorities last year. Bernadette suspects that whatever made the muddy footprints is long gone, but she holds out hope.

“I, personally, would like to see it,” she said. “I would love to actually take a picture of it.” - thetimesnews

Unexplained Lights Witnessed Again...13 Years Later

MUFON CMS - North Carolina Coastal Reserve - unedited: On April 19, 2011 my two brothers and I decided to go fishing in my new aluminum jon boat. It was about 6:30 when we left the boat ramp. We started fishing at Masonboro Inlet and worked are way back into the waterway behind Masonboro Island. Masonboro Island is a wildlife protected area and is not developed. The tide was coming in and we drifted with the current until the current stopped at the highest tide. My brother yells "look, what is that" and points out over Masonboro Island and the ocean. I looked in time to see five or six orange circular lights grouped together in almost a oval/triangle pattern. After about two seconds the lights dimmed quickly and disappeared. My brother said they were moving when he first saw them, then they stopped for a few seconds and then disappeared. My other brother looked the same time I did and saw the same. We kept looking over the ocean for about 30 seconds until we faintly saw them appear again farther south down the beach for only a second or two and again disappear. We did not see them again and left about 30 minutes later. Now the crazy thing is that I, and my brother that first noticed it, have seen this before more than 13 years ago and I was the one who saw the most that time. I've told this story to many people over the years but have never officially reported a sighting, until now. This is what happened:

In the summer of 1996 or 1997 I was 16-17 years old. My brother, a friend, and I were at Wrightsville Beach which is the next barrier island north of Masonboro Island. It was very late; probably about 2:00 am. We were just south of Johny Mercers Fishing Pier sitting on the beach (and 100% sober). It was a perfectly clear night, no clouds, no wind, the moon was out bright. I walked at least 100ft away alone down to the water and was looking over the ocean. I remember looking to my left down the beach and then looking back over the ocean. Instantly something orange appeared in my upper right peripheral vision and scared me. It came out of nowhere so fast my first thought was that it was a bird or something right in my face about to hit me and I threw my hands up to "block it". I quickly realized (in milliseconds) that it was much farther away. It then seemed to be just a blur of orange moving in the very far distance, until it came into focus. From the time it first appeared until my eyes focused on it was only milliseconds, but I remember it in every detail. When it came into focus it was a group of circular glowing orange lights. They were in a somewhat triangular pattern but it looked more like an oval pattern viewed from an angle. I was looking about 45 degrees up and about 45 degrees to the right. It was coming down and closer very quickly almost directly at me. It appeared to be about 100 yards away from the shore and maybe 10 degrees up when it started flying slower, level and parallel to the beach moving North. The orange lights were much brighter on its way down and they dimmed as it came level until you could barely see them. It traveled North until it disappeared from site. It made no noise and it was a very quiet night. I saw it for a total of about 15 seconds. The most amazing thing is that when it came into focus, it was more than just a group of lights. I could see a very thin white line around the group of lights that was about 5 times bigger than the group itself. It was very obvious that it was one large solid object. You could see right through it but the stars were slightly distorted looking through it. It looked as if it was made of perfectly clear glass. When it leveled off and the lights became very dim it was also obvious that you would not be able to see it at all if your eyes were not focused at that distance. As for my reaction, as soon as I focused on it I went into shock. I could not talk. I tried to say something to get my friend and brother's attention but I could not even breathe, my lungs were locked. I went to take a step in their direction and fell to my knees. I could make just a noise when I was trying to talk. My brother noticed my reaction and he instantly knew something was wrong. He ran over saying "What, what is it?". All I could do is pull him to the ground with me, grab his head, put it right against mine, point up the beach at what I was seeing and say "look". He saw it and said "What in the hell is that?". A second later it vanished. It seemed it just got too far away to see and the dim glowing orange lights faded away. We then walked back to our car in the parking lot and sat there talking about it. My other friend did not actually see it but he too could just tell something was really wrong by our reactions. I get goose bumps every time I tell this.

New Knobby / Bigfoot Video...yeah, right!

wcnc - Thursday morning, we got an email from a guy who said he shot some video of Bigfoot in Rutherford County. I, acting in my role as a responsible journalist, couldn’t not call him.

The guy, a disabled Vietnam-era veteran from Fallston named Thomas Byers, told me Bigfoot crossed the road right in front of him. Byers and his friend Carolyn were driving to a cemetery to shoot some video when they saw something climbing up a road bank. Byers stopped the truck and got out the camera. Bigfoot looked at him. He threw up his hands and snarled. Then he took off into the brush.

Byers got four seconds of video. Blurry, dark video. He saw Bigfoot for a minute. Tops. The Sasquatch was around seven feet tall, 300 pounds, with yellow teeth. It left behind six-toed footprints. It gave off the stench of decay, and it also had something that’s not found on most gorilla costumes. “It was very clear to both of us that it was a male,” Byers said, fumbling around for the most polite words. “I mean, you could see, I don’t want to say, trying to think, uh, you could see its private parts.”

We’ve heard this story before. People have been talking about Bigfoot since the 1850’s. They started seeing it a whole lot more after an article in December 1959’s True magazine. The most famous Sasquatch sighting of all was caught on 16mm celluloid shot in northern California back in 1967. A few years ago, the owner of Charlotte’s Morris Costume claimed he sold a gorilla suit to the man who made the filmstrip.

Then came Tim Peeler of Casar, who said he saw not just any Bigfoot, but Ben Knobby Knob, the decades-old Bigfoot who’s, allegedly, indigenous to Cleveland County and those parts.

Byers saw the story on Peeler. He isn’t sure if he saw Knobby. The thing he saw had long brown stringy hair, the shade of a winter deer, he said. Peeler’s version had beautiful blonde hair. Byers was scared and awed. “It’s the most amazin’ thing I’ve ever seen,” he said.

I looked through my Rolodex for a Bigfoot expert. I actually found one.

Mike Greene of Salisbury has been looking for Bigfoot for two decades. He just spent the night out in the Uwharrie National Forest looking for the Sasquatch. He came up empty. Didn’t even see any deer, he said.

Greene said he saw Bigfoot once, about five years ago. He speaks confidently and intelligently about sasquatches, the same way an Audubon would speak about a Tennessee Warbler. I told him about the six toes. Uh oh, he said.

First of all, a Sasquatch would weigh more than 300 pounds, he said. It would probably only have five toes. The arms would swing more. The stride would be longer.

“It’s a mincing walk,” Greene said of the video, “like someone who can’t see out of the suit.”

The video quality is terrible. What it shows is something Greene calls a “Blob-squatch,” or a blob that kind of looks like Bigfoot. The whole thing is, and Greene is willing to bet his reputation on this, a “lousy fake.”

It’s a matter of belief, then. The Bigfoot expert says it’s not Bigfoot. The Bigfoot witnesses say it is. I emailed Byers to ask him to send the video to the Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, where Greene says a group of 250 other Sasquatch experts will mercilessly pick through every frame of video in search of the truth. Byers said all he wanted was for somebody to look at the video and see if what he saw was what he believed he saw.

Did we air the video? Yes. Do we know what’s really on it? No. We are merely an objective conduit of images that either show science’s most elusive discovery, or a guy in an ape suit. It’s up to you to decide what you want to believe.
