Just the Facts? - UFO Disrupts Chongqing Airport, Forest People's Friends and Stopping Asteroid Apophis

Flights diverted as UFO sighted over airport

A UFO spotted over the runway at Chongqing Municipality's Jiangbei International Airport led to flights being disrupted yesterday.

Airport traffic was restricted for around an hour from about 12:30pm before the object left the area and the alert was lifted, according to Chongqing media reports.

Passengers on several flights were delayed when their aircraft were diverted to other airports after the mysterious object was spotted.

The Chongqing government has not officially offered an explanation of what the object was.

However, the airport authority told Chongqing media they suspected, based on eyewitnesses accounts, it could be a sky lantern or a large balloon. An investigation is under way.

A sky lantern is a traditionally used by Chinese when praying for good luck.

Sky lanterns, widely known as Kongming lanterns, was named after their supposed inventor, Chinese sage and military strategist Zhuge Liang, whose reverent term of address was Kongming.

The news that a UFO was sighted at the Jiangbei airport spread quickly across Chinese social networking websites yesterday, creating much excitement online.

The airport said two flights from Beijing that were about to land had to divert to two other airports in the region following the restricted traffic alert.

Two other flights en route to the airport were also forced to land elsewhere, said officials.

By 1:20pm, the alert was lifted and normal traffic resumed, the airport said.

The affected aircraft started returning to Chongqing later yesterday.

This is not the first time a UFO has been seen at Chongqing.

A year ago, news of UFOs in the municipality also stirred up wide public attention.

But local media later said people had mistaken a number of glittering kites for aliens.

The media said there was a regular group of kite enthusiasts who regularly gathered on a hilltop to fly their kites. People witnessing these from further away could take them for UFOs, reports said. - shanghaidaily

Five Mysterious Lights Beamed From Missouri UFO

Missouri, August 19, 2011 - unedited: While driving South on highway 169 we saw one large UFO, at first glance it seemed like a huge falling star or fire ball moving very slowly towards earth. Then it stopped and hovered in mid-air, then rose a couple feet. The large UFO emitted a beam from underneath and five smaller lights ejected out the bottom, then they began to circle around the larger UFO in a circle formation while heading downward twords earth in an eastern direction.

Missouri, August 19, 2011 - unedited: i was driving back from McDonalds on Old Hwy 94 and I noticed some lights just above Walgreens. There were many other cars, but none noticed or just didnt care. They were a yellow-orange in color and they did not pulse or flash. The reason I recorded, or tried to, was because I could not see any shape and they all moved freely from each other. I followed them for a minute (approx.) and pulled over at the street near the post office. By the time I pulled over it appeared that they went straight up (not abruptly) and disappeared. I then went to the KFC parking lot and called a couple of friends and reviewed my video. Its a really bad video! - MUFON CMS

International Society of Forest People's Friends

International Society of Forest People's Friends

Statement: "Friends, the main idea of this group is not the research of the Forest People, though it is one of the aims, but just to befriend them. We don’t need to get more proofs of their existence – there are a lot of such proofs, but the heads of big science [Western Science?] don’t want to see them and hear the proofs. And no judges exist to recognize the Forest Peoples. Thus the main idea of this society is to spread the info about our Forest Friends and initiate the proud movement to recognize them by Governmental authorities and even by such international organization as the United Nations Organization and such as WWF, Greenpeace, and so on.

Let’s attract more supporters of this idea, and we can achieve their recognition and protection by law.

United we shall win!"

Animal Sacrifice Alleged in Massachusetts Barbershop Closing

A Massachusetts barbershop has been closed after city inspectors discovered chickens, pigeons and roosters – including one dead bird – in the basement of Bad Boyz Cutz, surrounded by religious paraphernalia.

The owner of the barbershop, William Camacho, told officials that the birds were for animal sacrifices and claims that closing his shop amounted to religious discrimination.

The animals were found in an inspection of the building by New Bedford Animal Control following an anonymous tip complaining of loud poultry-type sounds coming from the building.

The birds -- three chickens, two pigeons and four roosters -- were penned in wire cages and a cardboard box. They were found in a room with an ornate alter with candles and statues near a wall illustrated with hand-drawn religious symbols.

No cutting implements or evidence of violence was found in the room, Scott Langley, mayor of New Bedford, told ABCNews.com

Officials initially thought the animals were being kept as a cock fighting ring, but Camacho, 41, said they were being to be used for animal sacrifice as part of his religion, which incorporates elements of Afro-Caribbean rituals.

"It's called Palo Mayombe . It's actually working with the dead and working with the spirits. We use the roosters to sacrifice so that the spirits can eat. That's the way they eat. It's a tradition," he told ABC affiliate WLNE.

Comacho believes he is the target of religious discrimination, telling ABC News, "I feel violated for my rights." He maintains that he's never practiced animal sacrifice in his business and was temporarily storing the animals in his business before transporting them elsewhere.

Langley told ABCNews.com that the alleged practice of animal sacrifice has absolutely nothing to do with closing of Bad Boyz Cutz.

"Some of the animals were kept in cages, and others in cardboard boxes," said Langley. "The reason why the barbershop was shut down was because of the unsanitary conditions. There's no running water, water, no sink to protect customers against health hazards."

"There were feces all over the basement, lots of flies and no sealed door between barbershop and basement. With all the traffic the shop gets, this is a clear health violation. The question regarding his religious practice has never been factored into the fact that you can't keep animals in that manner or in that way in our city."

Langley says once Comacho cleans the shop and passes a health inspection, he's free to open the doors of Bad Boyz Cutz for business. - abcnews

Scientists Propose Spacecraft To Save Earth From Asteroid Apophis In 2036

Shengping Gong, Junfeng Li, and Xiangyuan Zeng of Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, have published an article in Research in Astronomy and Astrophysics (RAA), proposing to place a small spacecraft with a solar sail into a retrograde orbit to prevent an asteroid from colliding with the Earth in 2036.

Near Earth Asteroids have a possibility of impacting with the Earth and always have a thread on the Earth.

The asteroid Apophis – which is 270 meters in diameter – will approach Earth at a distance of 37,000 to 38,000 km in 2029. In 2036, Apophis may come back and collide with Earth on April 13, 2036.

Using a solar sail in a H-reversal trajectory (retrograde orbit), the team proposes a way of changing the trajectory of the asteroid to avoid the impaction.

The impact velocity depends on two important parameters: the minimum solar distance along the trajectory and lightness number. A larger lightness number and a smaller solar distance lead to a higher impact velocity.

The results show that a 10 kg solar sail with a lead-time of one year will give the spacecraft an impact velocity of 90 km per second which – if done well enough in advance – can move Apophis out of a 600-m keyhole area in 2029 to prevent its return to Earth in 2036.

However, the spacecraft could go wildly off course, with variations in solar wind patterns, according to Technologyreview.com.

The asteroid, discovered in 2004, is considered the largest threat to our planet, although NASA scientists say the 2036 strike is unlikely, and the asteroid would likely disintegrate into smaller parts and make smaller collisions with Earth. - asianscientist
