United Nations' Ambassador to the Extraterrestrials

topnews - The United Nations is preparing to hire Malaysian astrophysicist Mazlan Othman to assign her with the task of communicating with extraterrestrials.

The little-known Malaysian astrophysicist will head the United Nation’s Office for Outer Space Affairs. Aliens who will land on earth and ask: “Take me to your leader” will be directed to Mrs. Othman.

Earlier, Mrs. Othman said expressed her views on the topic, saying, “The continued search for extraterrestrial communication, by several entities, sustains the hope that some day human kind will received signals from extraterrestrials.

The 58-year-old Malaysian astrophysicist will announce the details of her new role at a Royal Society conference in Buckinghamshire in the coming week.

The plan to make the United Nation’s Office for Outer Space Affairs the co-ordinating body for communicating with extraterrestrials will be debated by UN scientific advisory committees, before finally reaching the body’s general assembly.

The recent discovery of numerous planets revolving around other starts has made the discovery of extraterrestrial life more probable than before.

More than two hundred paranormal events have been recorded in the UK alone over the past one year period.

Record Number of Paranormal Events Reported in Great Britain

thesun - A record 227 paranormal events have shaken Britain in the past 12 months, a study reveals today.

The soaring number of unexplained activities is set out in police reports and other official sources.

Now The Fringe Weird Report has been compiled by the Rev Lionel Fanthorpe, a Cardiff-based Anglican priest and president of the Association For The Scientific Study Of Anomalous Phenomena.

Ghosts of people are the most common phenomenon, followed by UFOs, strange sounds and road phantoms.

Also among the reports are poltergeists, crop circles and shucks - spectres of large black dogs.

In a normal year there are 140 to 180 reports but the number has been rising steadily.

Mr Fanthorpe said: "It has to be considered that news spreads faster in our technological days with mobile phones and the internet. However, it's beginning to look as if 2010 will produce a higher-than-average number of reports."

Here are some of the paranormal hotspots around the country.

NORWICH: Edmund Sheffield - the first Baron Sheffield - died in the Adam & Eve pub after being struck by a butcher during a revolt against land enclosures in 1549. As he lay dying he cursed those who harm the innocent.

The Maid's Head Hotel in nearby Tombland was said in March to be visited by a spectre of an old woman who smells of lavender.

PRESTWICK: The most recent event - a man on Saturday reported seeing a ball-shaped red object in the sky close to this Scottish town that changed colour, flew and was joined by other similar shapes.

TRURO: Passers-by reported in February hearing the rattling of chains at Comprigney Field, where criminals' bodies were exhibited in an iron cage known as a gibbet.

A phantom horse-drawn coach was reported in April on the road from Truro to Mevagissey.

BRISTOL: A black triangle was seen earlier this month above the city. It was seen to rise then disappear into the clouds.

TROWBRIDGE: Unexplained orbs of light, a strange phantom figure and examples of poltergeist activity were reported in March at the Wiltshire town's Rose & Crown pub.

NORTHBOROUGH: A husband and wife reported earlier this month seeing two very bright orange alien craft flying in a Cambridgeshire area known for RAF activity.

DERBY: The ghost of a gardener was seen in the distance in June walking thoughtfully across the lawns of Pickford's House Museum.

A figure wearing what looked like an ancient Roman cloak was said in May to haunt Royal Derby Hospital.

BATH: A poltergeist at the Curfew Inn was said to have interfered with beer taps in February and to have tried to play a pool shot.

CHESTERFIELD: A yellow light was seen in the sky near this Derbyshire town early this month, travelling silently and with two other lights following.

EXETER: St Thomas station is apparently haunted by a person wearing heels who likes to pat dogs. The animals respond affectionately even though no one can be seen. The latest report was in August.

The ghost of "Hanging Judge" Judge Jeffreys, who sentenced hundreds of people to death after a 1685 rebellion, was reported in June at the White Hart Hotel.

YORK: A girl carrying a child is reported on misty evenings on the A64 Malton Road where she is said to have been murdered by a highwayman. She was spotted in April.

Also in April a shuck was said to doggy-paddle furiously along some of the city's narrow alleys that heavy rain can turn into streams.

A ghost cyclist was said to ride around York Minster in March and the same month a phantom was reported rowing a boat on the Ouse.

BLANDFORD FORUM: A flock of spectral sheep is often seen or heard at Sheep Market Hill and horses are heard, but not seen, pulling a carriage at Ashley Wood golf club. There were reports of both happenings in May.

BLACKPOOL: The Pleasure Beach ghost train is said to have a real ghost, nicknamed Clogger because it seems to wear clogs. It last appeared in July.

LIVERPOOL: Bold Street is said to be the centre of a time slip in which shops and offices briefly take on the appearance they had in the 1950s. It was last reported in April.

Croxteth Hall is apparently haunted by the last Earl of Sefton who died in 1972. His most recent appearance was in January.

MANCHESTER: A yellow shuck was reported bounding over Godley Green in May.

Whilst taking out a vaccuum bag to empty it, I came to notice a vry bright orange "star" in the sky. I thought of it as polaris (the northern star) and disregarded it. Soon, however, it came to my attention that the light was not in the north direction but instead, it was southeast. Checking a compass, I confirmed my suspecion. What struck me as odd though, was the fact that I had observed a similar object previously in virginia while on vacation. I went and got my dad. We are both UFO enthusiasts and watch programs on TV whenever we can. He took a look at it and (as I did) disregarded it. Until, that is, it began moving. First, it moved right (eastward) and then began descending. Quickly, my father, my little sister, and I jumped into our truck and took off, chasing the object. We soon came to a position where we could get a clear view. We had a cheap Meade telescope with us and set it up on the truck. The object continued it's descent and we frantically sifted through lenses, finally finding on with the correct zoom, etc. As I looked through the lense, I saw that the object had three distinct colors to it (this may, however, be due to the lense), the colors being, red, white, and green. Again, the object moved down. We jumped back in the truck and followed the light to the intersection of Hereford Farm and Columbia road. We followed where we thought it would be but could not locate it. Just as we were leaving (and on the phone with Mufon) two helicopters (very close together) flew over us to where we orignally spotted the craft. One went on to Fort Gordon and the other made multiple passes over the area. During the initial experience, I was stunned and amazed. You never know when you will see something like that. When the helicoptors flew over, however, I got a conformation of my feelings. They seemed to be scanning, searching.

Segway Company Owner Dies...Runs One Off Cliff

telegraph - The multi-millionaire businessman, 62, fell into the River Wharfe while inspecting the grounds of his North Yorkshire estate on a rugged country version of the Segway.

The Segway is a motorised scooter which use gyroscopes to remain upright and is controlled by the direction in which the rider leans.

A passer-by found Heselden alongside his Segway in the Boston Spa area at about 11.40am on Sunday.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said today: "Police were called at 11.40am yesterday to reports of a man in the River Wharfe, apparently having fallen from the cliffs above.

"A Segway-style vehicle was recovered. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"At this time we do not believe the death to be suspicious."

Heselden was worth £166m and ranked 395th on the Sunday Times Rich List.

The former miner made his millions from defence contracts. He created a unique portable wire cage water containment system which when filled with earth and sand proved a major defence against bullets, missiles and suicide attacks.

His founded his first company HESCO Bastions with his redundancy pay when he was laid off from the mines.

The wire cage systems developed by Bastions have become standard military equipment for Nato as well as American and British forces.

The Segway operation was acquired by a UK based company backed by Heselden.

Probing the Sixth Sense

SMH - The mystery behind the ''sixth sense'' - how people interact on a physiological level - is a step closer to being unravelled, according to a Sydney neuroscientist.

A five-year study monitoring brain activity during therapy sessions has shown that two people can become physiologically aligned - parts of their nervous systems beating in harmony - despite having no physical contact with each another.

Trisha Stratford, the neuropsychotherapist who did the research at University of Technology, Sydney, said her study provided a deeper understanding of what happened when people interacted, including when a couple fell in love.

Ms Stratford said her research could also provide clues about how best to communicate with or ''chat up'' a potential partner using this sixth sense, which has long been suggested but never extensively identified in science.

She observed 30 volunteers using electrocardiography and a monitor on the finger to measure skin conductance resonance to identify the moment of alignment or ''oneness'' during individual counselling with a therapist.

Harvard Medical School psychiatrist Carl Marci established a connection or ''physiological concordance'' between two people - but his study, conducted three years ago, was limited and he called for more research.

''Interestingly, I had already started my PhD looking into the same thing as Dr Marci,'' said Ms Stratford, who has published one paper and is awaiting publication of three others submitted to international journals.

''I replicated his research but then I froze that point of two people becoming one and looked at what was happening in the brain.

''It was very exciting. When we're in this moment of oneness or an altered state, the most exciting thing is that a part of the brain called the parietal lobe is fired into action.

''When this happens we can read each other's brains and bodies at a deeper level - a sixth sense.''

Sara Lal, senior lecturer in the university's department of medical and molecular biosciences, said the visual and audio face-to-face communication between the therapists and the volunteer patients had resulted in the alignment of what is known as their autonomic nervous systems.

''It really is quite eerie when you see the traces on the screen start to match each other as they come into alignment,'' Dr Lal said. ''We now believe physiological alignment is required for successful therapy.''

Videos of the counselling sessions showed the patients' body language changed as alignment occurred, the eyes changed their focus and the patients became oblivious to the surroundings. The patients, who received the therapy for a variety of reasons, were shown to have lower levels of anxiety and lower heart rates at the end of the sessions. They all said they had benefited from them.

Ms Stratford believes that achieving the state can be used to enhance the relationship between teacher and student and between doctor and patient.

Psychotherapist Alan Meara, president of Gestalt Australia & New Zealand, who was a Phd supervisor for the research, said: ''This sixth sense isn't something that is magical. It is something that the human brain is wired to do. The research shows that we do have the capacity to understand people at a deeper level than we normally do in general conversation.''

Ms Stratford, who has a master's degree in psychotherapy, majoring in neuroscience, said: ''It appears that as we connect deeply with someone by using our sixth sense [and other senses] we are using our creative imagination to read the other person.''

And if you are interested in tips to how best chat up a potential partner? ''You need to give them your total, undivided attention,'' she said.

''Listening is better than talking about yourself, and the state of oneness becomes strongest after two or three meetings.''

Thirty volunteers aged 21 to 65 were assessed by six therapists in a trial period of more than 180 hours.

Each had said that they were suffering some kind of anxiety in their life.

Electrodes were placed around the head to monitor brain waves in four different areas. The heart was monitored by ECG and the body through skin conductance resonance - a monitor taped to the finger.

The electrodes monitored activity in four areas of the brain at the moment of ''alignment''. The monitoring showed heightened activity in the parietal part of the brain, which is considered to be the seat of the imagination.

It was this part of the brain that has been of interest to those who have studied the brain of Albert Einstein.

It is the ''alignment'' between two people that researcher Trisha Stratford said enabled the relationship between individuals to be elevated to another level.

''My energy impacts with you just standing there,'' she said. ''I am impacting your brain and body just by being here.''
